Validate & Upgrade from Windows 10 Home/Professional to Windows 11 Home/Professional
Revised 2025-07-29 1519
- Confirm posession of mail profile documentation (specifically, if 3rd party exchange mail server and credentials). Only seems to be needed in odd cases were the upgrade aborts and rolls back, possibly wiping the mail profile in the process.
- Validate Computer (download, then manually run).
- BEFORE attempting to upgrade a given system, be sure to configure the "Power Management" in Windows to "Never" sleep! Failure to do so may result in, for many cases, a hung upgrade (until "woken"), at worst a possible corrupted OS.
Note: Even if policy is to make the same setting, some Windows 10 installations have been irregularly revert to default Power Management settings during an update. This issue has been observed to "hit or miss" even between computers of the same make & model, purchased at the same time with the same OS version and the same or very similar software installed at that time.
- Windows 11 Update Assistant (download, then manually run).
- IF, the upgrade aborts and rolls back to Windows 11, documents to possibly fix. Try second option FIRST!
- Once the installation is complete, note that said installation/upgrade sets the task bar to Microsoft Windows 11 defaults. Any previous configuration will need to be repeated if desired.
